Washington, D.C.: 10 Favorite Bites at Eastern Market
VIEW SLIDESHOW: Washington, D.C.: 10 Favorite Bites at Eastern Market
Eastern Marketin southeast D.C. falls somewhere between a farmers market, food court, and tourist attraction. The permanent indoor and weekend-only, pop-up outdoor bazaar is open year-round (except on Mondays) and has been running for over 130 years.
While you can swing by on a weekday after work and pick up a pound of homemade pasta or a couple of steaks, the real action happens on the weekends, when the market practically quadruples in size.
Outdoor tents selling everything from farm-fresh produce to handmade jewelry, even one with a tarot reader, line the surrounding streets and spill over into a neighboring school basketball court. Allot a couple of hours (and an empty stomach) on a Saturday or Sunday to fully experience what Eastern Market has brought to the Hill since 1873.
